I confess, before I begin, I do not really need a new machine before you buy! That said, my old coffee maker was not brilliant, and I found the flavor to deteriorate rapidly, while perched on the heating block. Thermal carafe is stainless, and therefore doubly insulated to keep coffee tasting fresh as it is only for hours. ~ The carafe holds up to 12 cups of coffee. Our experience with Cuisinart DTC 975 Programmable Auto Brew 12 cups of coffee: So far I am very happy with the result. The large carafe keeps even my family in the coffee, taste, quality is excellent and the temperature is maintained just in the thermal carafe at least 8 hours without staleness creeps in because there is no Plate warming. If coffee is prepared for the coffee machine beeps, then check the lid seals it and the machine turns off, which is an interesting option. Cleaning and maintenance is very easy with only the basic need of using a damp cloth on the basket, cover the pot and can be washed with hot water, wipe and rinse thoroughly. So, we are pleased with our purchase of Cuisinart DTC 975 Programmable Auto Brew 12 Cup coffee makers? Yes! The flavor is much improved over our old system and there is much less bitter than you get with cheaper makers.
