I did much research on these combo units when I was seeking a solution for my coffee/latte needs. Pretty much every one of these combo units received "eh" to poor reviews. This one did better than the rest, so I took a chance.
About a few months into it, the espresso maker was acting strange. Just shutting off in mid-brew. I tried descaling the machine and did make some improvements, but it still gave me problems every now and then. The final straw was when I found a puddle of water around the unit this morning. I filled the coffee-maker part last night and set up the timer to go off 10 minutes before I got up, but apparently there was a leak.
Outside of the leak and the espresso problems, I thought the unit made a good cup of coffee. The espresso tasted ok in my book, but I think part of the reason why my lattes didn't taste as good as ones in the cafe is that I'm an amateur and these guys are professionals. I'm sure with more time I'd get it right.
I think Krups needs to take this design back to the drawing board and rethink it. I've come to realize there is no inexpensive way to have a cafe at home. If you want quality espresso, then you have to pay for a unit that will make that and work every time. I don't think I'll buy another one simply because I'd rather just go out to a cafe for a latte than make it at home. I'll definitely get another coffee maker, even a Krups, but I realize now that if you want to be able to make espresso at home and coffee as well, then you have to shell out real money for more expensive units and not get an combo.
I even think if Krups wants to make a combo happen, then they should rethink it all and make one that might end up costing the consumer more money. I think I'd pay more for a unit that will get 5 stars on Amazon reviews.
So if you, the consumer, are reading this review, I'd tell you to rethink that idea of a combo unit. Skip this one and all of them. Get two separate quality units or just stick with coffee and go to a cafe for the latte. |
Krups XP2070...not worth the hassle

We got the Krups XP2070 for a wedding gift about a year and a half ago. It was great for the first year. Makes good coffee. Espresso machine works great. We were definitely very satisfied. However, after a little over a year I came into the kitchen one morning to find the coffee machine dead...no display, no reaction to any button pushing, nothing. Took it to a local repair shop, since Krups only give you a 1 year limited warranty. Repair shop said that we had a bad PC board and they needed to replace it. Cost us $125 and took 3 months to get it back. Called Krups to complain and try to get some help with this ordeal and the guy told me "we only give a one year limited warranty on our $1200 dollar models, so if it's beyond that we can't help you". Way to stand behind your products Krups! I mean come on, someone pays $400 for a coffee machine and has to pay $125 just over a year later to get it fixed. That's ridiculous! I have more expensive products from other companies, and when something goes wrong with those products, the companies bend over backwards to make sure you're happy...especially if it's so close to the warranty expiration. Anyway, now that we've gotten the Krups back, you'd think that things would be back to normal, but you'd be WRONG! The machine leaks water onto the counter every time I make coffee. I'm not one to complain really, but this really sucks. I won't be getting this machine fixed again. If anything, I'll be sending it back to Krups and telling them to keep their piece of s$ coffee maker, I'm buying something else. Seriously, don't buy this product. You'll be sorry.
Good machine but service stinks.

Sent in $1000 cappuccino machine for recall and service. Six months later, still waiting. Called Krups Customer Service and the most helpful thing " Tom ", the " Supervisor " could say was " Have a Nice Evening ". Yikes ! If it breaks, throw it away. Their service Dept. does not seem to function.
Stop selling this item!

$300 for just over a years worth of coffee making. Obviously this machine is horribly flawed (just look at the reviews). Some shred of customer service from krups would have been nice. Last krups item I ever buy.
Broke from the start

Unfortunately, the item did not work after being set up. I returned it to the vendor for a credit minus a restock fee. My daughter has one of these and really likes it.
