Beautiful machine, heavy, seems like it would be durable. Makes a nice espresso with everything you'd expect. At least, WHEN THE MACHINE WORKS. I'm on my third machine. First one, heater quit working after 9 months. Second one (their replacement), heater quit working after only 3 months. They replaced the third one with an upgrade to the BES 820XL model (programmable). It never worked - broken pump out of the box. Past 90 days with Amazon, so can't get $ back there and MAKE NOTE: If you don't purchase the machine directly from Breville, they can't give you your money back, only an endless game of 'replace the machine'. Hey, it keeps UPS in business at least. I know people who love their machine...lucky them, it's still working.

We previously owned a Breville espresso machine and were always been impressed with the overall build quality and excellent espressos made, hence we decide to buy this one as a second machine.

This machine is very easy to use and will have someone with limited or no experience frothing milk and making impressive creme in no time. The build quality is excellent. The machine heats up quickly and there is almost no downtime when switching between the milk froth and espresso functions.

My only criticism is that the water tank is initially awkward to remove and refill, but after a few time it becomes relatively easy and you will be grateful for the huge water capacity especialy when entertaining a large group of friends and having to make 10 espressos!

I would definitely recommend this product for both the "experienced" and "new" espresso fan.

We've had our Breville machine for over 4 years and it's still going strong - which is saying something because we've been known to use it 3 - 7 times a day for multiple espressos, tea, and just steaming milk. We love this machine. It works really well, really consistently, even though we honestly don't take very good care of it. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and easy to fill (and wash out)the water tank (especially important if you have gnarly hard water like ours). It's really good looking out on the counter too and doesn't really take up much space - after all, it stores all of it's own parts (there's a handy tray under/behind the water reservoir that holds the other size of filter, cleaning needle for the steam wand, etc.). The steamer works great and does an excellent job even on soy milk (which is all we use). We have made our money back on this machine many times over. I would highly recommend it to anyone who drinks a lot of espresso and wants to start making it at home. It may have cost as much as my first car, but it runs a lot more dependably!

Mine broke on the wand but breville after 6months replaced the machine and upgraded it to the one with the gauge. i would get the one with the gauge as the wand is actually polished which makes cleaning a lot better. it also make better crema again thanks breville for great service
Owned the 800ESXL for 3.5 yrs and still love it

I've had this machine for 3 1/2 years now. My wife and I both use it on a daily basis for espresso and/or some sort of latte-type beverage. I still love this machine. Guests to the house still tell me that I make the best espresso they have had in recent memory. Additionally, if you like foam on your latte drinks, the milk steamer, when used with the correct technique, can provide foam that rivals whipped egg whites. The technique took some practice. I find that 1% milk works best.

Only problem I've ever had was slow water flow from the brew head. I live in southern California and thus have hard water. I had never decalcified the machine. So I filled the tank with 50/50 vinegar / water and ran it through. The machine was good as new.

I do take good care of the machine, rinse the filters out at the sink, and wipe down the steam nozzle after each use.
I would highly recommend this machine. If it broke tomorrow, I would purchase another one.
